GreenMode

The intelligent control system for sustainable heat pumps

Smart control & even smarter heating

An air-to-water heat pump extracts energy from the ambient air and, in combination with electricity, can supply a building with heat. It is a particularly popular method of using electricity for climate-friendly heating. However, especially when we need large quantities of electricity, we should pay attention to which energy sources are used to produce it and how we use it as carefully and sustainably as possible.

The patented GreenMode from ÖkoFEN

With its unique GreenMode, the GreenFOX air source heat pump addresses precisely this issue, making it possible for the first time worldwide to heat as environmentally friendly as possible with an air source heat pump. The aim of GreenMode is to shift the operation of the heat pump into as green or favorable an electricity window as possible. GreenMode is integrated into every GreenFOX heat pump as standard. To use it, CO2, electricity and weather data are analyzed and a 24-hour forecast is determined. Based on the resulting forecast, the controller automatically optimizes the heating mode and shifts it to a cheaper or greener electricity window. There are three modes to choose from.

The patented GreenMode is therefore “the optimized control” for really green heat pumps and can save 10 to 25 % on electricity costs, CO2 emissions and electricity purchases from the grid*

The 3 GreenModes at a glance

Solar power optimized mode

This mode uses weather data to call up the upcoming solar intensity for your home address. If this is high, the control system automatically adjusts operation accordingly and makes greater use of the solar energy generated by the PV system.

CO2-optimized mode

The “CO2-optimized mode” analyses CO2 data and recognizes when it makes the most sense to heat. This is because the control system recognizes when the electricity is as clean as possible and automatically optimizes the heating times so that only green electricity is used wherever possible.

Electricity price optimized mode

The “electricity price-optimized mode” analyses data from the electricity price exchange and recognizes when it is particularly cheap to heat. If required, the control unit can automatically adjust the heating times so that the cheapest possible electricity is used.

Comfort levels of the GreenModes

There are three comfort levels for each of the three GreenModes:

Comfort (+/- 1 h)

Maximum deviation in heating time of up to one hour.

Minimum (+/- 2 h)

Maximum deviation in heating time of up to two hours.

Ecological (+/- 3 h)

Maximum deviation in heating time of up to three hours.

GreenFOX - the heat pump from ÖkoFEN

With the GreenFOX air source heat pump, a heat pump with maximum sustainability has been developed. It not only achieves top efficiency values, but also impresses as an outdoor unit in monobloc construction with its stylish design in white, gray and anthracite.

With a sound power level of just 45.2 db(A) (in accordance with DIN EN 121012-1), it is one of the quietest appliances on the heat pump market, uses the environmentally friendly refrigerant R290 and is manufactured with proven ÖkoFEN electronic components at our main plant in Niederkappel.

Example of CO2-optimized GreenMode: Shifting heating times into a greener electricity window

Heat pump control at the highest level

The control system accesses weather data, electricity forecasts and electricity price tariffs. The imported data is used to create forecasts for the coming day. The control unit therefore recognizes how green or cheap the electricity will be in the next planned heating window and can react accordingly. It simply shifts the standard heating times to a “greener” or cheaper heating window. This saves money and protects the environment.

An example: The heating times are set to 06:00 to 08:00 in the morning by default. The heat pump retrieves the electricity price data or the electricity mix the day before and determines how expensive or green this/these is/are on average at the planned heating time. If a cheaper or “greener” electricity window is available immediately before or after, the heat pump automatically adjusts the heating times.

One GreenMode, many possibilities

The decision is up to you: Choose the CO2-optimized mode to use as much low-CO2, i.e. “green” electricity as possible. Or opt for the electricity price-optimized mode, which shifts the heating times to the cheapest electricity window. With the solar power-optimized mode, heating is preferably carried out when the sun's intensity is higher, so that your own energy is used to the maximum.

How do I activate the GreenMode or make adjustments?

Once you have decided on one of the three GreenModes - only one mode can be selected at a time - simply activate the setting via the heat pump touch display by selecting the corresponding button.

You can also adjust the exact time period of the shift directly on the display or via the free myPelletronic app and thus specify the time window in which heating operation should be shifted.
