What is hybrid heating?
A hybrid heating system usually combines two different heating technologies. This results in a particularly efficient and flexible heating system. An essential feature of hybrid heating is the idea that the advantages of different energy sources are combined.
Therefore there are different possible combinations. As a rule, one renewable energy source (e.g. heat pump, pellet heating) is combined with a second renewable or conventional heating source (e.g. oil or gas heating).
Advantages of hybrid heating
Benefit from multiple advantages in the long term
With hybrid heating, you not only maximize your independence from one fuel and are equipped for the future, but also benefit from many other advantages: for example, you can save on operating costs in the long term. The topic of energy efficiency is also particularly relevant: by using two different energy sources, the heating system can always choose the most efficient option. For example, a heat pump can work efficiently in mild temperatures, while a gas or oil boiler can step in during extremely cold weather.
In addition, with hybrid heating you can rely on maximum flexibility and reliability: if one energy source fails, the other can step in, increasing security of supply. This is particularly important in regions with strong temperature fluctuations.
Hybrid solution with heat pump and pellets
The GreenFOX heat pump can be installed as a fully-fledged stand-alone heating system or as a hybrid solution in combination with a pellet heating system. This avoids extreme conditions of both heating systems and increases the service life of the overall heating system.
Heat pump with FuturePlus
For even more independence, the system can be expanded into a hybrid system not only at the time of installation, but at any time with an ÖkoFEN pellet heating system. This means that no matter what the future brings - whether an extension of the house, power controls and or power peaks come your way or ours - you are prepared for anything. The system can be combined with pellets at any time. Hydraulics and control are equipped for this, the effort is minimal.

Elements of a hybrid heating system
The pellet heating system
Our pellet heaters are modern, fully automatic and flexible heating systems that are ideal for a hybrid solution.
In combination with the air source heat pump, the result is a hybrid, sustainable heating system that provides you with reliable and efficient heat at all times.
GreenMode: Completely new regulation
The unique GreenMode control function optimises the operation of the heat pump. The control accesses a database that imports live electricity data. Thus, it knows when green electricity is being produced and automatically shifts the standard heating times to such a phase, if necessary.
So if you are not using the pellet boiler at the moment, but the heat pump, the GreenMode ensures that you heat as green as possible.

When does hybrid heating make sense?
A hybrid heating system combines the heat pump heating system with another heating system. The purchase of a hybrid heating system is particularly worthwhile for large heating areas with low energy requirements. By using two energy sources, you are more flexible as you can use the more efficient source and also save on your heating costs in the long term.
Longer warranty on hybrid heating systems
You usually receive a 5-year full guarantee on an ÖkoFEN heating system. Hybrid heating systems protect the components and thus increase the service life of all components. We are convinced of the longevity of this system. That is why you receive an additional two-year guarantee on both heating systems when you purchase a hybrid heating system.
